Sport and PE at Kelson School

At Kelson School, we are passionate about our kids participating in sports. Playing sport in a school team is lots of fun and a great way for both students and whānau to meet others in our school community.

At Kelson School we have a number of different sporting codes that students can become involved in.
The following sports are available:

Touch Rugby

Touch Rugby is available for Years 1-6 during Terms 1 and 4. Games are played at Fraser Park on a Thursday afternoon from 4.00pm. The teams practice once a week at school, usually during a lunchtime

Basketball

Basketball is available for Years 1-6 during Terms 2 and 3. Games are played at the Walter Nash Centre between 4.00 and 6.00pm each week.
Years 1 and 2 play Tiniball on Fridays.
Years 3 and 4 play Tiniball on Mondays.
Years 5 and 6 play Miniball on Thursdays.
They practice once a week at school, usually during a lunchtime.

Inter School Sports

Kelson School is a member of the Lower Hutt Primary Schools Sports Association. There are four school sporting zones within the Hutt Valley and we are part of the Central Zone. Years 4-6 children have the opportunity to represent Kelson School at the Central Zone Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming Competitions. Children who gain top placings at the Central Zone Competitions will advance to Inter Zone and then Wellington Regional Competitions.

PE and Fitness

All of our classes participate in regular PE and fitness activities. Children are taught skills as part of their class PE programmes. Skills covered include athletics, running, catching, throwing and striking balls. Each year in Term 2, we have a school wide Cross Country and in Term 4, a school wide Athletics Day where all children participate.

Flippa Ball

Flippa Ball is available for Years 5-6 during Terms 2 and 3. Games are played at the Stokes Valley Pool on a Wednesday afternoon. The team have a dry land practice once a week at school, usually during a lunchtime.
